There are a lot of black hat SEO tricks when it comes to making money online.  Optimizing a web site for an engine can be a laborious process but can also is lucrative.  There are also some tricks that can be utilized that fall under a different category that some refer to as black hat.  Now, it wasn’t so long ago that these black hat SEO tricks were all the rage and were legitimately used all the time.  It made a lot of people very rich and then companies like Google started to clamp down a little.  They’re concerned about returning quality results, but really the bottom line is if a consumer wants a product or a service and they’re willing to pay shouldn’t they have access to every possible option?  Black Hat World has some really nice tutorials about this subject.

What kind of tricks have worked in the past?  It used to be that keywords ruled the roost when it came to SEO.  All you had to do was pack a bunch of keywords into your Meta tag and whammo, instant recognition.  As the internet matured so did the companies who scan pages for quality content.  Now, keywords can still be used on a site and one way to do this is to make them white on a white background.  Some still use the method of just packing in keywords in plain sight all over the site.  This can give you a boost but it will tend to be short-lived.  There are ways to finesse this approach certainly as the negative result is that the engines will penalize you.  You can still have content that is relevant and how does that affect the consumer?  It is merely a trick to get the engine to ratchet up your rank so you can drive more traffic to your site.

Doorway pages are another trick in the black hat arsenal.  Again, like the white on white text mentioned previously it’s an innocuous way that the consumer will never see.  The doorway page acts like a window for just the engine spider to look through.  Without seeing the landing pad beneath or any other attributes of the site, the spider will be tempted to assess the merits of the site based on its view of the doorway.  Really the most appropriate method can vary and your mileage will certainly vary but you have to use some caution when implementing these black hat tricks because engines can and will penalize you.

Like most things using black hat SEO tricks takes a bit of time to research but it can be well worth the effort.  Again, these techniques were once used all the time and considered completely legitimate.  Knowing these tricks can only make you more competitive in the fearsome landscape of internet marketing even if you decide to not make a full blown effort.  You can be sure that your competitors will in all likelihood be either making a full blown effort or using them too so be aware and be vigilant.
