Influence of Black Hat and Defcon on Internet Security

In the past decade, internet security has been emerging as a very important theme in providing quality use of the internet. Information these days are stored in computers and being used to transact in various processes and trades. The safety of personal information as well as national information is of utmost importance as it is a part of the constitution. In the year 1997, a conference was created as a way to discuss ideas, technologies and various products that are always updated for the sake of security in the internet.  These conferences are the Black Hat Conference followed afterwards by the DefCon.

There is a particularly different tone between the two conferences. The Black Hat Conference, although a bit younger than of Def Con has a more serious tone, being a meeting between industry professionals, academe and government officials. There are also “Hackers” present in the conference which are stated as a good thing and not in a criminal sense.

In a Black Hat conference, there are two main events happening. One is the training where various vendors provide the training and also promote products for internet security. The other one is the briefing in which industry professionals and other key speakers talk about various situations on new technologies, vulnerabilities of products, viruses, everything regarding internet security. Most of the time, there had been occurrences about hackers hacking the system and messing up audio equipment. Other times, they would hack sites of people and deliver information to the conference. Although there had been such occurrences, sometimes these are only considered as antics in the conference.

There is a strict decree in Defcon for photography. It is very important to realize that the people in the conference are not criminal hackers. There were some issues before with regards to the media about hackers and the events happening in the Black Hat-Defcon events. As strict as the people are in letting people in, the purpose of the conference is all about the openness of people regarding the state of internet security and the development of new technology and criticisms of existing ones to further develop them.

The Black hat-Defcon events strive to make a discussion and more or less an idea of a resolution about the state of internet security. With tons of people using the internet and with vulnerabilities showing as it expands in all directions, it is best to keep in mind that there are various agencies and concerned parties that really give importance to the security of the users of the internet and the medium itself.

We call this age the information age, the Black hat-Defcon events are truly pivotal in providing structured answers to various questions about internet security.
