Search Engine Optimization

The chief goal of search engine optimization is to drive traffic to your website.  Usually, you want this to be unique traffic.  Repeat customers are nice, but if you are running an affiliate campaign unique traffic is going to pay the way.  There are many different ways one can go about this objective.  The end result is that your page is appealing not only to the customer but also to the automated crawler from the search engine that will evaluate your site or series of pages.  If both of these objectives are met then you will harmonize with the engine and should serve up the page high up on its results.

Many people know this obviously.  It is how a great deal of money is made.  Not making it onto the first page can mean the difference between millions of dollars for a company in revenue or sales.  Search engine optimization isn’t just crafting or sculpting your page for how it appears to your potential customers, it’s also the quality content of your web pages.  Do you have links to official resources and quality sites?  Do those sites link back to you?  It is well known that having one superior quality link will trump a site that has several mediocre links.  Is the content on your site fresh and up to date?  If not, many sources will recommend you start a blog and update it once a week.  A lot of these considerations often fall outside the realm of intuition maybe.  It seems like a good idea to use flashy script or flash itself for fancy graphics or a sophisticated display.  The truth may be that this will actually affect how well a spider crawl your site and return its results to be indexed.  It could have a negative bearing on your final rank.  Use search engine optimization to take this into account because your intuition may not be right when you look at the facts.

Finally, there’s a lot of controversy over using black hat methods to supplement online earning potential by gaming the system.  Well, in short, a lot of respectable people do it and those people have made a lot of money.  The application of black hat techniques isn’t an approach necessarily; it’s more like a kit of special utilities that can be pulled out when the time is right.  Meeting expectations for yourself or for people you are responsible to can be agonizing and sometimes employing black hat methods can get that result you need and keep you relevant for a certain period of time.  It’s all a means to an end and that end is to drive traffic and make money.  You have to realize that your competitors will be doing the same thing you will so to the victor go the spoils.  To engage in this behavior is risky certainly but not foolish.  The line keeps being redrawn by the big search engine companies and there is wiggle room.  You just need to know how much to wiggle.
